ברית מילה

בפרשת לך לך כתוב שאברהם אבינו נצטווה לעשות ברית מילה לו ולבניו אחריו וכן לעבדיו עד כדי כך שברבות הימים מכונים כל הגוים בשם ערלים בירמיה (ט,כב). אבל החוקרים שואלים שאין מעשה המילה מיוחד לבני ישראל דוקא וכבר בשושלת הששית במצרים שלפי דעת קדם הרבה לאברהם אבינו ישנם כבר ציורים של מעשה המילה, וכמו כן מבואר בראש הפסוק הנ"ל שגם אדום ובני עמון ומואב וקצוצי פאה היו מלים, וכל זה אינן קושיות שהרי על המצרים כתוב במדרש רבה (פסוק אשר יאמר לכם תעשו) שיוסף כפה את המצרים למול, ואדום הוא עשו בן יצחק, ועמון ומואב בני לוט אחיינו של אברהם לא ייפלא שנהגו לימול כמוהו אף על פי שלוט נפרד מאברהם עוד קודם שנצטווה על המילה, וקצוצי פיאה אשר במדבר כנראה היו מבני קטורה בן אברהם וכן הערבים שנהגו להימול לפני הנהגת האיסלאם היו גם כן מבני קטורה. ומה שהביאו מפילון מגבל המספר על אלילי הכנענים שנימולו בעת צרתם אין זו ראיה שהכנענים נימולו אלא אדרבה הכירו את המילה כדבר מקודש שאולי תעזור בעת צרה. ומה שמעניין שהמצרים היו כה אדוקים בזה עד שהפסוק אומר ביהושע (ה,ט) אחרי שנימולו בני ישראל "היום גלותי חרפת מצרים מעליכם", אלא שיצויין שאז מלכו מלכי החיקסוס מזרע עמלק שהם בודאי היו נימולים גם התמונות מהשושלת הששית הנ"ל הם מימי החיקסוס.
